Elvis Tells Fans Not to Buy Boxset

Remember when Elvis Costello was the angry young man? Well now it’s more like the self deprecating middle aged man.  Costello has a new boxset of The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook, which is available online, and includes a CD, DVD, vinyl EP and book, and is priced at £212.99.

Via his website he told fans not to buy it saying:

The price appears to be either a misprint or a satire.

If you want to buy something special for your loved one at this time of seasonal giving, we suggest, “Ambassador Of Jazz” – a cute little imitation suitcase containing ten re-mastered albums by one of the most beautiful and loving revolutionaries who ever lived – Louis Armstrong.

The box should be available for under one hundred and fifty American dollars and includes a number of other tricks and treats.

Elivs brought back his Spinning Songbook tour earlier this year, which invites audience members  onto the stage to spin a wheel and choose a track from his catalog to be performed.

I saw Elvis do this tour in the late 80′s in Pittsburgh. It was a great concept and especially cool to hear him do a lot of the songs unplugged. I was in college radio at the time and was lucky enough to interview him after the show. Elvis was just as fun, warm and down to earth off stage- turns out he wasn’t angry then either.
