Amnesty Tribute To Dylan

I have a confession. I’ve never been a fan of Bob Dylan. I get it, he’s an American icon, but I’ve just never connected with his music.  It’s strange though that I do tend to like covers of his songs, hence when I heard about the new tribute album to Dylan, I was definitely interested.  Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International, features 80 artists interpreting his songs.

The four disc set, which is due out in late January, will raise funds for Amnesty International.  Among those appearing on the album are: Mark Knopfler, Brett Dennen, Lenny Kravitz, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Ziggy Marley, Cage the Elephant, Michael Franti, Lucinda Williams, Eddie Vedder, Tom Morello, Silversun Pickups, and Dave Matthews Band.

All of the artists, session musicians, arrangers, engineers, producers and recording studios worked pro-bono to support the human rights cause. Almost 30 tracks on the album were mixed gratis by famed engineer Bob Clearmountain, as reported in  Amnesty International’s press release.
