My Morning Jacket at Merriweather Post

Last night I saw My Morning Jacket at the opening of the summer concert season at Merriweather Post Pavilion and it was just like getting together with an old friend.  Great show, and lots of songs from their catalog that I love including “The Way he sings” from 1999′s “At Dawn”.  The band is in between albums right now and is doing a two week tour then going back to the studio to record, then going out again for a two to three week run.  It’s a new approach they’re trying to keep things fresh and to allow them to reflect on the recording process, instead of knocking it out at once, and hitting the road for an extended period.  It was a nice treat as well to see the opening act, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, with Jim James from the Jacket joining them on stage as well.  My Morning Jacket are relaxed and in top form, catch them on one of these summer stints if you can.
