I Am What I Am – Merle Haggard

Merle’s 76th album in 73 years is a quitely reflective collection of songs that range in flavor and feel from traditional country to texas swing to jazz.

The lead guitar work of his 17 y/o son Ben is excellent and Merle’s band - The Strangers – provide most of the backing on the album. It’s a beautiful album that demands listening.

Kris Kristofferson once said, “Merle Haggard is the greatest artist in American music history”. This album provides further support for Kristofferson’s dead on description of Merle.
