Pearl Jam…Ten

I’m gonna come right out and say it….Pearl Jam‘s “Ten” is one of the most essential rock-and-roll albums of the genre. Ever. Ok, so maybe it made even more sense to me because of its advent during my coming-of-age, if you will, but listen and watch the primal urgency of this live performance of a deep cut from that album and try to tell me that this is not the stuff that defines what rock-and-roll is supposed to be about. Seriously…you’ve heard of the guitar solo, right??? If so, you’d best know Mr. Mike McCready. The kids in the Ed Sullivan Theater certainly got the joke.

And before you respond…a word from Mr. Vedder: “THERE AIN’T GONNA BE ANY MIDDLE ANY MORE!” And, this is maybe my fifth favorite track on the album.  Maybe. Bonus points for the seamless inclusion of a Beatles reference in this performance…in the Ed Sullivan Theater.

And, for posterity, a bonus video from that performance of my favorite track on “Ten”.

And, one of the best live collaborations ever…a.k.a. your moment of Rock-and-Roll zen…and the zenith of MTV’s relevance to American music.
